Companies are the World's Largest Water Users
The World Economic Forum’s July 5th article makes the case for companies to work together to preserve water resources and protect basins at risk.
There is a clear choice on the horizon for businesses utilizing freshwater resources: be part of the problem — risking increasing regulatory, environmental, and public backlash — or become part of the solution. Sanda Ojiambo (Assistant Secretary-General and CEO, United Nations Global Compact) and Jason Morrison (Head of the CEO Water Mandate, President of the Pacific Institute) place this choice in stark contrast — while detailing the goals and efforts of the industry-driven Water Resilience Coalition (WRC).
Corporations are the largest users of freshwater resources in the world, with two-thirds of all usage going to “produce ingredients for corporate supply chains.” The WRC calls for companies to become “wise custodians” of their water usage, as well as becoming part of the “larger solution to the global water crisis” by achieving net-positive water impact in the water-stressed basins they operate in.
Common Good Water’s work is aligned with these goals. By providing our partners with risk reduction; resilience to extreme weather; alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and more, our Conservation Contracts are a perfect fit for public or private organizations that are looking to more effectively manage their water usage — in order to help both their bottom lines and the greater good.
